Nominated Sri Lankan players for the Emerging Player of the Year award
The International Cricket Council announced the first four shortlists for the ICC Awards 2023, including ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year, and ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Among those four lists, Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka and Sri Lanka women’s team captain Chamari Athapaththu have been nominated for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year award and the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award, respectively.
This is the first time that a Sri Lankan player has been nominated for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year award after 11 years. Previously, five Sri Lankan players were nominated for the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year award, and Ajantha Mendis won the Emerging Player of the Year award at the ICC Awards ceremony in 2008.
