A dominant performance from Chamari Athapaththu on her Super Smash debut
Sri Lankan women’s team skipper Chamari Athapaththu made her debut for the Nothern District in the Women’s Super Smash League in New Zealand on Tuesday.
Northern Brave Women registered a 5-wicket win over Wellington Blaze in the 11th match of the Super Smash Women on Tuesday at Bay Oval in Mt Maunganui. Wellington Blaze batted first, and they were bowled out for 110 runs in 19.4 overs. In reply to that, the Northern Brave Women chased down the target successfully and scored 111 runs for a loss of five wickets in 19.4 overs.
For the Northern Brave women, debutant Chamari Athapaththu was the star with the ball and picked up 4 wickets for 19 runs in her 4 overs. Her brilliant bowling figures ranked as the third-best women’s figures for Northern Brave women. Chamari Athapaththu and Caitlin Gurrey made a 47-run partnership for the first wicket. Chamari Athapaththu scored 19 runs on 16 balls with three fours. At the end of the match, Chamari Athapaththu was awarded Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
