Glenn Maxwell single-handedly guided the team to a great victory

Australia registered a three-wicket trilling win over Afghanistan in the 39th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Tuesday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan scored 291 runs for a loss of 5 wickets in their 50 overs. Ibrahim Zadran was the top scorer with an unbeaten 129 runs, and Rahmat Shah scored 30 runs. Both Zadran and Rahmat made an 83-run partnership for the second wicket. At the back end of the inning, Rashid Khan smashed an unbeaten 35 runs in 18 balls.

In reply to that, Australia chased down the target successfully and scored 293 runs for a loss of 7 wickets in 46.5 overs. At one stage, Afghanistan was in the driving seat, and Australia struggled with seven wickets for 91 runs. However, Glenn Maxwell single-handedly guided the team to a great victory with an unbeaten 201 runs. Skipper Pat Cummins was well supported with an unbeaten 12 runs in 68 runs. Both Cummins and Maxwell made an unbroken 202-run partnership for the 8th wicket.

With that win, Australia qualified for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals.
