Many Sri Lankans are among the front-runners for the Man of the Series Award in the Asia Cup
After the group stage and Super Four matches, Sri Lanka and Pakistan qualified for the all-important ACC Asia Cup 2023 final, which will be played on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. When it comes to the final, some players are highlighted, and they are the front runners for the Man of the Series Award.
Here are the front-runners for the player of the series award:
Dunith Wellalage
Sri Lankan youngster Dunith Wellalage is the main contender for the Man of the Series award, with superb all-round performances throughout the tournament. He has scored 78 runs with an average of 39, and he has claimed 10 wickets. Wellalage is the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. Also, he was awarded the man of the match award for his all-round performance against India in the Super Four match.
Shubman Gill
Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill is one of the front-runners for the Man of the Series Award. He has scored 275 runs in his five matches in the Asia Cup 2023. Shubman Gill is the highest run scorer in the tournament.
Kusal Mendis
Sri Lankan wicketkeeper and batsman Kusal Mendis is also having a good outing in the ACC Asia Cup 2023. He has scored 253 runs in five matches with a healthy average of 50.60. Also, Kusal Mendis contributed with eight catches and one stump behind the wicket. Kusal Mendis guided his team to victory in the crunch match against Pakistan and won the man of the match award.
Charith Asalanka
Sri Lankan middle-order batter Charith Asalanka also has a chance to win the Man of the Series award. He has scored 179 runs in the tournament with an average of 59.67. He has played some crucial knocks for Sri Lanka when their team was in trouble. Aslo Charith Asalanka claimed four wickets against India.
