Sri Lanka’s women’s cricketer claimed five wickets after 20 years

Sri Lanka women registered a 58-run win over Bangladesh women in the 2nd ODI, which was rescheduled for Thursday at Colombo. The match was shortened to 30 overs per side due to rain. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka’s women batted first and scored 186 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 30 overs. Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu was the top scorer with 64 runs, while Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed with an unbeaten 45 runs. In reply, Bangladesh women bundle out for 128 runs in 29.5 overs. Nigar Sultana scored 37 runs, and Fargana Hoque scored 24 runs. For Sri Lanka, Oshadi Ranasinghe claimed five wickets for 34 runs.

With that bowling performance, Oshadi Ranasinghe became the third Sri Lankan women’s cricketer to take five wickets in an ODI match after 20 years. Suthershini Sivanantham was the first Sri Lankan women’s cricketer to take five wickets in an ODI match. She took five wickets for two runs against Pakistani women in 2002. It’s recorded as the best bowling figure for Sri Lanka. After that, Sandamali Dolawatte took five wickets for 16 runs against the West Indies Women in 2003.
