Sri Lanka Collapse in the Chase

Bangladesh produced a commanding performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series, held on Sunday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. With this win, Bangladesh have leveled the series 1-1, setting up an exciting decider in Colombo on July 16.

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Bangladesh recovered well from an early collapse. After losing two wickets in the opening two overs, the visitors rebuilt their innings through a crucial 69-run partnership for the third wicket between skipper Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy.
Litton led the charge with a composed and classy 76 runs off 56 deliveries, while Hridoy added 31 runs, stabilizing the innings. Later, Shamim Hossain provided the late fireworks with a brisk 48 off 27 balls, helping Bangladesh post a strong total of 177/7 in 20 overs.
For Sri Lanka, left-arm seamer Binura Fernando was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3 wickets.

In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 94 runs in 15.2 overs, never finding any momentum after the early dismissal of Kusal Mendis. The hosts struggled throughout, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to form any substantial partnerships.

A brief resistance came through Pathum Nissanka (31) and Dasun Shanaka (20), who added 41 runs for the fifth wicket, but no other batter managed to reach double digits. The Sri Lankan innings crumbled under pressure, handing Bangladesh a massive win.

Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain impressed with the ball, taking 3 wickets, while the entire bowling unit maintained tight control throughout the innings.

With the series now tied at 1-1, the third and final T20I scheduled for July 16 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo will decide the series winner. Both teams will be eager to claim the series and carry forward momentum ahead of upcoming series.
