Bangladesh Level ODI Series with Thrilling 16-Run Win Over Sri Lanka in Colombo

Bangladesh secured a hard-fought 16-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Saturday, leveling the series 1-1.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz chose to bat first. Despite a few middle-order collapses, the visitors managed to post a competitive total of 248 runs in 45.5 overs. Young opener Parvez Hossain Emon led the charge with a composed 67, while Towhid Hridoy contributed a crucial 51. Lower-order resistance came from Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who remained unbeaten on 33, along with Shamim Hossain (22) and Jaker Ali (24). Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga impressed with 3 wickets in the middle overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka fell short, getting bowled out for 232 in 48.5 overs. After an early setback with the dismissal of Pathum Nissanka, stand-in skipper Kusal Mendis counterattacked with a blazing 56 off 31 balls, keeping Sri Lanka in the hunt. However, Bangladesh kept striking at regular intervals, disrupting the momentum. Kamindu Mendis added a steady 33, while Janith Liyanage fought valiantly with a determined 78, but lacked support from the lower order. The star of the night for Bangladesh was left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, who ripped through the Lankan batting line-up with a brilliant spell of 5 for 39, guiding his team to a memorable win.

With the series now tied 1-1, both teams will head to Pallekele for the decider. The third and final ODI is scheduled to be played on July 8 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
