Wanindu Hasaranga rewriting the record books

Sri Lankan superstar all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has etched his name in the record books by becoming the fastest player in ODI history to achieve the coveted double of 100 wickets and 1,000 runs.

The milestone came during the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where Hasaranga reached 100 wickets in the 1st ODI and then crossed the 1,000-run mark in the very next match. This historic feat was accomplished in just 65 matches, surpassing the previous record held by South African legend Shaun Pollock, who achieved the milestone in 68 matches.

27 years old, Wanindu Hasaranga’s rise as a premier all-rounder has been rapid and impactful. Known for his lethal leg-spin and aggressive lower-order batting, Hasaranga’s consistency with both bat and ball has made him an integral part of Sri Lanka’s white-ball setup.

By reaching the 100 wickets / 1,000 runs milestone in just 65 matches, Hasaranga not only set a global record but also became:

  • The 70th player overall in ODI history to achieve this double
