Strong reply by Sri Lankan bowlers
At the end of the 1st day of the 1st Test of the series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Bangladesh was trailing by 248 runs at Sylhet on Friday. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, Sri Lanka were off to a shaky start and lost their opener, Nishan Madushka, in the 2nd over. After the early dismissal, Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunarathne made a 37-run partnership for the second wicket. Kusal Mendis was dismissed for 16 runs, and Dimuth Karunarathne got out for 17 runs in the same over. Six runs later, Angelo Mathews was run out for five runs. After that, Dinesh Chandimal was dismissed when Sri Lanka were at 57 runs. After that, Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis rebuilt the innings and made a 202-run partnership for the 6th wicket. However After that, both Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva got out for 102 runs each in quick succession. After that, Sri Lanka bundled out for 280 runs. For Bangladesh, Khaled Ahmed and Nahid Rana claimed three wickets each.
In reply to that, Bangladesh hasn’t had a good start. They lost three wickets quickly. At the close of the play, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Taijul Islam were at the crease. For Sri Lanka, Vishwa Fernando claimed 2 wickets, while Kasun Rajitha chipped in with 1 wicket.
