Sri Lanka Names 18-Member Squad for First Test Against Bangladesh
Sri Lanka Cricket has officially announced the 18-member squad for the First Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, set to commence on June 17 at the iconic Galle International Cricket Stadium.
A major highlight of the squad is the inclusion of legendary all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who will play his final Test match before retiring from the longest format of the game. Mathews, a veteran of Sri Lankan cricket, will bid farewell on home soil after a distinguished career.
The squad features a blend of youth and experience, with several fresh faces earning their maiden Test call-ups. Six uncapped players have been named in the squad
Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the side, continuing his role as Test captain. Pathum Nissanka and Oshada Fernando, who are likely to open the innings. The middle order sees experienced names like Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Dinesh Chandimal included to bolster the team’s batting depth.
Spin bowling sees a boost with the return of Akila Dananjaya, who joins frontline spinner Prabath Jayasuriya. The fast bowling unit is reinforced by Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha, adding pace and experience to the attack.
