South Africa won the low-scoring match on a tricky pitch
South Africa registered a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the fourth match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga won the toss and elected to bat first.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka were off to a horrible start, and at the end of the first half of their inning, they lost half of their side for just 40 runs. Kusal Mendis was the top scorer with 19 runs, and Angelo Mathews scored 16 runs. Kamindu Mendis contributed with 11 runs, and other than that, no one was able to pass the double-figure mark. For South Africa, Anrich Nortje claimed 4 wickets for 7 runs in his 4 overs. Eventually, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 runs in 19.1 overs. Which was recorded as Sri Lanka’s lowest total in T20I matches.
In reply to that, South Africa chased down the target successfully and scored 80 runs for a loss of 4 wickets in 16.2 overs. South Africa were off to a slow start, and they maintained that rate throughout the innings. Quinton de Kock scored 20 runs, and Tristan Stubbs scored 13 runs. Heinrich Klaasen scored an unbeaten 19 runs and guided the team to a victory.
