One of my idols is Chaminda Vaas – Angelo Mathews
Before starting the 14th match of the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2023, Sri Lankan legendary all-rounder and former captain Angelo Mathew had an interview, and he expressed his thoughts about the T10 format and talked about himself as well.
“It is the fastest format. We get the T20s and now the T10. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a T5 in a few years. It’s a lovely format, and we enjoyed it.” Angelo Mathews expressed his thoughts about the T10 format.
“I’m not labeled as one format player, so I can play all formats, and I enjoy every single format; obviously, the most important for me is Test Cricket. Thats the pinnacle of cricket, but I enjoy playing league cricket as well.” Angelo Mathews said
“I haven’t decided to be honest. I still love the game, and I still enjoy it. I keep going as long as possible; as long as I am fit and performing, I try to enjoy myself for as long as possible.” Matthews explained his retirement plans.
“Winning a Test series in England in 2014 was kind of the pinnacle of my career. Obviously, 2014 was one of the best years for Sri Lankan cricket after 1996.” Angelo Mathews said “We won a T20 World Cup, we won the Asia Cup, and we won a Test series in England and created history over there.” Mathews extended his explanation.
When the interviewer asked if Mathews had any regrets about his career, “I have played the game to the best of my ability and given 100 percent in every single game. So I have no regret.” He reply. “I will always be my hundred percent, wherever I play. Whether it’s domestic cricket or club cricket, whatever cricket, I try to win and give my hundred percent,” Angelo Mathews said.
Angelo Mathews also mentions his idol in his cricket life. “When I was growing up, I looked up to Jacques Kallis, and one of my idols is our coach now (the Northern Warriors) Chaminda Vaas.” Angelo Mathews said “He played 100 test matches in Asia. been an Asian fast bowler playing hundred Test matches, something very special. I have seen how hard he worked to get there. He was an inspiration to all of us.” Mathews added.
