March 01: Lasith Malinga’s second hat-trick

On this day in 2011, Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga took his second hat-trick in ODI matches. He achieved this milestone during the World Cup match against Kenya at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Malinga took the wickets of Tanmay Mishra, Peter Ongondo, and Shem Ngoche in three consecutive balls.

Lasith Malinga ended up taking six wickets for 38 runs in 7.4 overs and achieved his best bowling figures in ODI matches.

On this day in 2015, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara scored his second consecutive hundred in World Cup matches. He scored an unbeaten 117 runs against England at Wellington.

On this day in 2015, Sri Lankan all-rounder TM Dilshan reached 100 wickets in ODI matches. He took Gary Ballance’s wicket as his 100th during the World Cup match between Sri Lanka and England at Wellington.
