Bangladesh registered a historical win over Sri Lanka

Bangladesh registered a historic two-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected the bowl first.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka managed to score 124 runs for a loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer with 47 runs, and Dhananjaya de Silva scored 21 runs. Charith Asalanka scored 19 runs. After a good start, Sri Lanka lost momentum, and Bangladesh bowlers put pressure back on Sri Lanka. For Sri Lanka, Rishad Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets each.

In reply to that, Bangladesh chased down the target successfully and scored 125 runs for a loss of eight wickets in 19 overs. After a sheaky start,, Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das made a 63-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Towhid Hridoy smashed 40 runs in 20 balls, and Litton Das scored 36 runs. However, Sri Lankan bowlers kept on the hunt and took wickets at regular intervals. At the back end of the inning, Mahmudullah scored an unbeaten 16 runs and guided the team to victory. For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thushara took 4 wickets for 18 runs.

With that, Bangladesh recorded their first ever win against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup history.
