Zimbabwe registered their first win over Sri Lanka in T20I matches
Zimbabwe registered a four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the series on Tuesday at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, Sri Lanka were off to a sheky start and lost four top-order batters for 27 runs. After that horrible start, Sri Lanka’s most experienced player, Angelo Mathews, and Vice Captain Charith Asalanka made a record-breaking 5th wicket partnership and put Sri Lanka in a strong position. Both Mathews and Asalanka added 118 runs to their partnership. Charith Asalanka was the top scorer with 69 runs, and Angelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 66 runs. Eventually, Sri Lanka scored 173 runs for a loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.
In reply to that, Zimbabwe chased down the target successfully and scored 178 runs for a loss of six wickets in 19.5 overs. Zimbabwe lost their first wicket early. However, after that, Craig Ervine and Brian Bennett made a 74-run partnership for the second wicket and set the stage for the chase. Brian Bennett scored 25 runs. After that, Zimbabwe lost a few wickets in quick succession. Craig Ervine was the top scorer with 70 runs. At the back end of the inning, Luke Jongwe and Clive Madande made an unbeaten 35-run partnership and guided Zimbabwe to a historical victory. Luke Jongwe smashed an unprecedented 25 runs in 12 balls.
With that win, Zimbabwe registered their first win over Sri Lanka in T20I matches and leveled the series.
