Sri Lanka won the Super Over in the tied match

Sri Lanka won the Super Over in the tied match in the first match of the series on Sunday in Auckland. New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka in the very first ball of the match. After that, Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera made 47 runs for the 2nd wicket before Kusal Mendis was dismissed for 25 runs in 9 balls. After the dismissal of Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka joined Kusal Perera and made 103 runs in partnership. Charith Asalanka scored 67 runs in 41 balls with six sixes and two fours. Kusal Perera scored an unbeaten 53 runs in his return to the team. At the back end of the inning, Wanindu Hasaranga scored an unbeaten 21 runs. Eventually Sri Lanka manages to score 196 runs for the loss of five wickets in his 20 overs.

In reply that, New Zealand lost two wickets early. However Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell made 63 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket and rebuild the innings. Tom Latham scored 27 runs and Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer with 66 runs. Mark Chapman scored 33 runs. Both Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell made 66 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. At the back end of the innings Rachin Ravindra scored 26 runs in 13 balls and kept hopes alive for New Zealand fans. Eventully Ish Sodhi hit a six in the last ball and tied the match.

However, in the Super Over, New Zealand batted first, and they managed to score 8 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 6 balls. In response, Sri Lanka scored 11 runs and won the first T20I, leading the series 1-0.
