Sri Lanka wins the nail-biting match against Pakistan

Sri Lanka registered a thrilling 2-wicket win over Pakistan in the rain-interrupted 5th match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup on Thursday at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first. The match was interrupted several times, and the match was redused to 42 overs.

After winning the toss, Pakistan scored 252 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 42 overs. Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer with an unbeaten 86 runs, and Abdullah Shafique scored 52 runs. At the end of the inning, Iftikhar Ahmed contributed 47 runs. Both Iftikhar Ahmed and Rizwan made 108 runs for the sixth wicket. For Sri Lanka, Matheesha Pathirana claimed three wickets.

According to the DLS method, the target was reversed to 252 runs. In reply to that, Sri Lanka chased down the target successfully and scored 252 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 42 overs. Kusal Mendis was the top scorer with 91 runs, and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 48 runs. Both Sadeera and Kusal Mendis made a 100-run partnership for the third wicket. At the back end of the inning, Charith Asalanka scored an unbeaten 49 runs to guide the team to victory. For Pakistan, Iftikhar Ahmed claimed three wickets.

With that win, Sri Lanka qualified for the Asia Cup final, and they will play against India on Sunday.
