Sri Lanka remains the only host nation to play the T20 World Cup final
South Africa registered a 3 wicket win according to the DLS method over the West Indies in the 50th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. West Indies batted first and scored 135 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. However, the 2nd inning was reduced to 17 overs, and the target was reversed to 123 runs due to the rain. South Africa chased down the target successfully and scored 124 runs for a loss of 7 wickets in 16.1 overs.
With that win, South Africa registered their spot in the semi-final along with England in Group 02. As a result, the Co-Host West Indies team was knockout from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. With that, Sri Lanka will remain the only team to play the T20 World Cup final as a host nation.
Sri Lanka hosted the T20 World Cup in 2012, in which Sri Lanka played the final against the West Indies. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka lost the final against the West Indies.
