SLC denies the senior journalist’s statement on Danushka

After Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilka got arrested in Sydney, Senior Sport Journalist Rex Clementine tweeted and said that “SLC were told to bear legal costs of Danushka’s case by a VVIP politician from SLPP. Sydney address for his bail application was provided by another prominent politician formerly with SJB. Danushka has lot of godfathers back home. They’ve generously protected him over the years.”

However, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board condemns and vehemently denies the truthfulness of this tweet. SLC announced that “Sri Lankan Cricket categorically denies the veracity of the said tweet and wishes to emphasize that SLC has in no way been influenced by a “third party” in carrying out the obligatory actions required to be taken, allow Mr. Danushka Gunathilaka to peruse any legal rights available to him.”

After that, Rex Clementine tweeted and said, “Last time Danushka was in trouble, the judge who conducted inquiry found him guilty and observed his ‘lack of remorse’. He recommended a 2 year ban. SLC overruled judge’s recommendation and reduced it to 1 year. Then further reduced it to 6 months. Heard of, ‘nip it in the bud.”
