Pathum Nissanka became the 3rd Sri Lankan and join with Mahanama and Silva
Sri Lanka registered a five-wicket win over the Netherlands in the 19th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. After winning the toss, the Netherlands batted first and bowled out 262 in 49.4 overs. In reply to that, Sri Lanka chased down the target successfully and scored 263 runs for a loss of 5 wickets in 48.2 overs.
Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka scored 54 runs in 52 balls and set the stage for the chase. This is his third half century in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. Nissanka was dismissed for ducking in his first appearance in a World Cup match against South Africa. After that, Pathum Nissanka scored 51 runs against Pakistan and 61 runs against Australia.
With those three consecutive half centuries, Pathum Nissanka became the third Sri Lankan to score three consecutive fifties in World Cup matches. Previously, Roshan Mahanama and Chamara Silva achieved that feat.
