March 07: Sanath Jayasuriya smashed the fastest ODI fifty
On this day in 1996, Sri Lankan master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya smashed the fastest ODI fifty before AB de Villiers bettered it in 2015. Sanath Jayasuriya made his fifty in 17 balls against Pakistan in the final of the Singer Cup in Singapore while they were chasing the target of 216 runs. However, Sri Lanka couldn’t reach the target, and they were bowled out for 172 runs. Sanath Jayasuriya scored 76 runs in 28 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes.
