June 24: Sri Lanka creates history in England

On this day in 2014, Sri Lanka registered their first Test series win in England by winning the second Test match at Leeds. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 257 runs. In reply to that, England made 365 runs. Sri Lanka started their second inning 108 runs behind, but they came back strongly in their second and scored 457 runs. England came out on to chased 350 runs to win. However, they were bowled out for 249 runs, and it was a 100-run win for Sri Lanka. The first test match was drawn.

On this day in 2014, Sri Lankan fast bowler Dhammika Prasad achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test matches. He took five wickets against England at Leeds.

On this day in 2017, Chamari Polgampola passed 1000 runs in women’s ODI matches.

On this day in 2022, Sri Lankan all rounder Chamika Karunarathne scored his maiden ODI fifty and his highest score in ODI matches. He scored 75 runs against Australia at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
