July 28: Kusal Mendis’s record breaking hundred

On This Day in 2006, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara scored his fourth double hundred in Test matches. He scored 287 runs against South Africa at the SCC in Colombo. At the end of the 2nd day of the 1st Test against South Africa, Kumar Sangakkara stayed at not out on 229.

On This Day in 2016, Sri Lankan top-order batsman Kusal Mendis made his first century in Test matches. He has scored 176 runs against Australia at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. With that hundred, Kusal Mendis became the youngest Sri Lankan batsman to score a Test century against Australia. Also, he became the first Sri Lankan batsman to complete his maiden Test century with a six, after Duleep Mendis and Aravinda de Silva.
