In all three departments, we made mistakes in most of the games – Naveed Nawaz

Ahead of Sri Lanka’s last match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka batting coach Naveed Nawaz joined the pre-match media conference.

“It’s a crucial game. The scenario says that we need to win it. Everyone is very positive and heads up to play the game tomorrow.” Naveed Nawaz spoke about the match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

During the media conference, journalists were asked about the Sri Lankan opening batters performance during the World Cup. “We brought in Dimuth for the qualifiers and Kusal Perera for the World Cup, which didn’t go our way.” Naveed Nawaz said “Also in the middle order, there are a couple of spots in the middle order, which have been concerning for some time now. Apart from that, we have seen that about 4 or 5 of our batsmen have done really well. Charith, Sadeera, Pathum, and Kusal have done exceptionally well in this tournament.” He added.

“In all three departments, we made mistakes in most of the games.” Naveed Nawaz said “Our fielding was not up to par, and we should have done better. Its disappointing; we had issues in the overbowling department due to injuries mainly.” He explained on Sri Lanka’s poor performance in the World Cup.
