December 03: Murali breaks Shane Warne’s record

On this day in 2001, Sri Lankan legend Chaminda Vaas made his best bowling figures in Test matches. He claimed seven wickets for 71 runs against the West Indies at Singhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

On this day in 2007, Sri Lanka’s Spin Wizard Muttiah Muralitharan took his 709th wicket and became the highest wicket-tacker in Test matches by surpassing Shane Warne. Murali dismissed Paul Collingwood during England’s first innings as his 709th wicket at Asgiriya Cricket Ground in Kandy.

On this day in 2009, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews run out for 99 against India and missed his maiden Test hundred. He was the third Sri Lankan to be dismissed for 99 runs in Test matches.
