Bangladesh Create History with First-Ever T20I Series Win Over Sri Lanka
Bangladesh etched their name in the history books with a dominant 8-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I of the series, held at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. With this victory, Bangladesh secured a 2-1 series win, marking their first-ever T20I series triumph over Sri Lanka.
After winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka opted to bat first. However, the hosts struggled from the outset, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build momentum.
Opener Pathum Nissanka top-scored with a fighting 46 runs, while Kamindu Mendis chipped in with 21. Towards the end, Dasun Shanaka provided some stability with an unbeaten 35 runs, helping Sri Lanka post a modest total of 132/7 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack was led by the impressive Mahedi Hasan, who claimed 4 wickets, effectively dismantling the Sri Lankan top and middle order.
Bangladesh’s chase got off to a shaky start with Parvez Hossain Emon dismissed off the very first ball. However, Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan Tamim took control with a composed and aggressive 74-run stand for the second wicket.
Litton Das scored a quick 32, while the star of the match, Tanzid Hasan, remained unbeaten on 73 off 48 balls, steering Bangladesh to the target comfortably. Towhid Hridoy also remained not out with 27 runs, as Bangladesh reached 133/2 in just 16.3 overs.
This win not only gave Bangladesh the series by a 2-1 margin but also marked their first T20I series win over Sri Lanka in history—a major milestone for the team as they continue to rise in global T20 cricket.
