August 05: Rangana Herath’s Test Hat-Trick
On This Day in 2004, Sri Lankan former captain and legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene made his second double hundred in Test matches. He scored 237 runs against South Africa at Galle. It helped Sri Lanka put 486 runs on the board in the first innings of the Test match against South Africa.
On This Day in 2010, Sri Lanka Legend Lasith Malinga reached 100 wickets in Test matches. He took Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket as his 100th wicket at the P. Saravanamuttu International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
On This day in 2016, Sri Lankan Spin wizard Rangana Herath completed a hat-Trick in Test matches and became the second Sri Lankan after Nuwan Zoysa to take a Test hat-trick. He picked up the wickets of Adam Voges,Peter Nevill, and Mitchell Starc, respectively, in a Test match against Australia at Galle.
On This Day in 2017, Sri Lankan top-order batsman Kusal Mendis made his third hundred in Test matches. He scored 110 runs against India at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.
