April 29: Aravinda de Silva’s unbroken record
On this day in 1997, Sri Lankan legend Aravinda de Silva became the first batsman to score two unbeaten hundred in a Test match. He scored unbeaten 138 runs in the first inning and 103 not out in the second inning against Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Also, it ranks as the third Sri Lankan to score hundreds in each innings of a Test match.
On this day in 2021, Sri Lankan opening batter Dimuth Karunarathne became the 10th Sri Lankan to score 5000 Test runs. He achieved this milestone during the Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Pallekele.
