Afghanistan registered historical win against Pakistan

Afghanistan registered a historical 8-wicket win over Pakistan in the 22nd match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first.

After winning the toss, Pakistan scored 282 runs for a loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs. Skipper Babar Azam was the top scorer with 74 runs, and Abdullah Shafique scored 58 runs. Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 40 runs each. For Afghanistan, Noor Ahmad claimed three wickets.

In reply to that, Afghanistan chased down the target successfully and scored 286 runs for a loss of 2 wickets in 49 overs. Afghanistan got off to a solid start and made a 130-run partnership for the first wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 65 runs and Ibrahim Zadran was the top scorer with 87 runs. Rahmat Shah scored an unbeaten 77 runs, while skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi contributed with an unbeaten 48 runs. Both Hasmatullah and Rahmat Shah made an unbroken 96-run partnership for the third wicket.

With that win, Afghanistan registered their first ever win against Pakistan in ODI matches.
