March 06: Sri Lanka became the Champions in T20 World Cup
On this day in 2003, Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya passed 9000 runs in ODI matches. He was the second Sri Lankan to reach that milestone after the Sri Lankan great Aravinda de Silva. Jasasuriya achieved this feat at Sharjah in his 299th ODI match.

On this day in 2017, Sri Lankan legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga took his first T20I hat-trick and became the 2nd Sri Lankan to take a hat-trick in T20I format after Thisara Perera. Malinga completed his hat-trick against Bangladesh in Colombo. Lasith Malinga claimed the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in three consecutive balls in the 19th over of the Bangladesh innings.
