We hope to come back strongly and qualify for the final of the next World Cup – Kusal Mendis

Before the match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis joined the pre-match media conference and expressed his thoughts about the team’s preparation after a heavy defeat against India.

Kusal Mendis addressed the media and said that even though Sri Lanka lost the matches apart from the Indian match, they have played well and some competitive cricket in the other matches.

Also, he mentions the positive side of the team. “Dilshan Madushanka bowled well during the ongoing World Cup, and he did well in the Asia Cup as well. He is the leading wicket taker in the tournament as well.” Kusal Mendis said, “Sadeera Samarawickrama is also playing well in the tournament. He knows his role, and he is playing according to that.” He extended his explanation.

“We qualified for the World Cup after doing well in qualifier matches. We played well in the first three matches of the World Cup.” Kusal Mendis said “Even though we lost a few matches as a team, we hope to come back strongly and qualify for the final of the next World Cup,” he added.

However, during the press conference, an Indian journalist asked about Virat Kohli’s 49th ODI hundred and said, “Would you like to congratulate him”. “Why do I want to congratulate him?” Kusal Mendis replies.
