Sri Lanka qualified for the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024

Sri Lanka women registered a 15-run win over United Arab Emirates women in the 2nd semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. United Arab Emirates women captain Esha Rohit Oza won the toss and opted to bowl first.

After losing the toss, the Sri Lanka women made 149 runs for a loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Vishmi Gunaratne was the top scorer with 45 runs, and Harshitha Madavi scored 24 runs. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu contributed with 21 runs. Both Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne made a 52-run partnership for the first wicket.

In reply to that, the United Arab Emirates women managed to score 134 runs for a loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Skipper Esha Rohit Oza scored 66 runs, and Khushi Sharma scored 22 runs. Both Khushi Sharma and Esha Rohit Oza made 66 runs for the second wicket. Kavisha Egodage scored 16 runs. For Sri Lanka, Chamari Athapaththu claimed two wickets.

With that win, Sri Lanka qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 final as well as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh. Sri Lanka Women will play the T20 World Cup Qualifier final against Scotland Women on May 7 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
