Sri Lanka maintain their winning streak
Sri Lanka registered a 21-run win over Bangladesh in the second match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.
After losing the toss, Sri Lanka scored 257 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. After the dismissal of Dimuth Karunaratne for 18 runs, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis made 74 runs for the second wicket.
Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for 40 runs, and Kusal Mendis got out for 50 runs. Sadeera Samarawickrama was the top scorer with 93 runs in 72 balls, while Dasun Shanaka contributed 24 runs. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed claimed three wickets each.
In reply to that, Bangladesh was bowled out for 236 runs in 48.1 overs. Bangladesh got off to a solid start and made 55 runs for the first wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 28 runs, and Mohammad Naim scored 21 runs. After a good start, Bangladesh lost four wickets quickly. After that, Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy made a 72-run partnership for the 5th wicket until Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed for 29 runs. Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 82 runs, but he couldn’t guide the team to a victory. Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana claimed three wickets each.
