Pakistan hopes are alive; Bangladesh knocked out

Pakistan registered a comprehensive 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the 31st match of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 on Tuesday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh were off to a shaky start, and they lost three wickets cheaply. After that, Litton Das and Mahmudullah made a 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket and rebuilt the innings. Litton Das scored 45 runs, and Mahmudullah was the top scorer with 56 runs. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan contributed with 43 runs. Eventually, Bangladesh bowled out 204 runs in 45.1 overs. For Pakistan, Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Shaheen Afridi claimed three wickets each.

In reply to that, Pakistan chased down the target successfully and scored 205 runs for a loss of 3 wickets in 32.3 overs. Pakistan openers made a 128-run partnership and set the tone for the chase. Abdullah Shafique scored 68 runs, and Fakhar Zaman scored 81 runs. Mohammad Rizwan contributed with an unbeaten 26 runs.

With that heavy defeat, Bangladesh was knocked out of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
