Nissanka Breaks Kusal Perera’s Record
Sri Lanka registered a comfortable 6-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the 5th match of the Asia Cup2025. Star opener Pathum Nissanka played a match-winning knock, bringing up another half-century and a record in the process.
Chasing 140 runs for victory, the 27-year-old opener Pathum Nissanka anchored Sri Lanka’s innings with his 16th T20I half-century. His fluent knock ensured Sri Lanka reached the target with ease, securing victory in just 14.4 overs.
Nissanka’s performance was not only vital for the match but also historic. With his fifty, he became the fastest Sri Lankan to reach 2000 T20I runs, achieving the milestone in just 68 innings. He broke the previous record held by Kusal Perera, who reached the landmark in 76 innings.
This achievement also places Nissanka 10th fastest overall in world cricket to cross the 2000-run mark in T20 internationals.
