MSD played a part, but Matheesha is a product of Sri Lanka – Naveed Nawaz
The assistant coach of Sri Lanka, Naveed Nawaz, joined the pre-match press conference before the start of the 4th match of the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup match between Sri Lanka and India and expressed his thoughts on the Sri Lanka team.
During the media briefing, Jurnalist said that MS Dhoni and Chennai brushed up Matheesha Pathirana and gave him back to Sri Lanka Cricket, and he asked Sri Lanka’s thoughts about it.
In reply to that, Naveed Nawaz said that MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings would have played a part in his development. But Pathirana is a product of Sri Lankan cricket.
“He has played two under-19 World Cups with us. He has been an identified product, and he has been in the development program of Sri Lanka Cricket. Obviously, the IPL opportunity would have helped him mature as a cricketer at an early age. At the age of 19, he got the opportunity to play under a captain like MS Dhoni, Naveed Nawaz said. I am sure Matheesha would have learned a lot from MS Dhoni, including how to handle pressure and be in the center of a big game for Chennai. He added.
“I wouldn’t say that it was brushed up and given back to Sri Lanka Cricket. We identified Matheesha at an early age. Obviously, when Chennai saw something like that, they got him back into the IPL. Nawaz extends his thoughts.
