Maheesh and Hasaranga are among the front-runners for the Man of the Series Award in CWC Qualifiers
After 20 group stage matches and 9 Super Six stage matches, Netherlands and Sri Lanka qualified for the all important ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 final, which will be played on Sunday in Harare. Both Sri Lanka and the Netherlands have already qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, whether they win or lose the final of the World Cup Qualifiers. When it comes to the final, some players are highlighted, and they are the front runners for the Man of the Series Award.
Here are the front-runners for the player of the series award.
Maheesh Theekshana
Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana is the main contender for the Man of the Series award, with superb bowling performances throughout the Tournament. He is the second-highest wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 with 17 wickets. Also, he scored a total of 44 runs in 2 matches. He made a crucial contribution with the bat and added a 77-run partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva against the Netherlands when Sri Lanka were in big trouble. Maheesh Theekshana has won three man of the match awards out of the seven matches Sri Lanka has played.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Sri Lankan Super star and all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the front-runners for the Man of the Series Award. He is the highest wicket taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 with 20 wickets. Hasaranga claimed three consecutive ODI five-wicket hauls and equaled 33-year-old Waqar Younis’s record for most consecutive ODI five-wicket hauls. Wanindu Hasaranga has scored 62 runs in four matches. He was awarded Man of the Match on two occasions during the group stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023.
Bas de Leede
Netherlands all-rounder Bas de Leede is also having a good outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 with the bat and ball. He has scored 285 runs in seven matches with a healthy average of 47.50. Also, he is the third-highest wicket taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 with 15 wickets. He played a crucial part in the most important match against Scotland.
Sean Williams
Zimbabwe Sean Williams also has a chance to win the Man of the Series award. Even though host Zimbabwe was unable to reach the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023, Sean Williams played some wonderful knocks during the tournament. He was the leading run scorer with 600 runs in seven matches, an average of almost 100. He scored three hundreds and two fifties in seven matches.
