January 05: Thisara Perera’s unforgettable knock

On this day in 2002, Sri Lankan legend Muthiah Muralidaran achieved his best bowling figures in an inning. Muralidaran claimed nine wickets against Zimbabwe at Kandy.

On this day in 2010, Sri Lankan batter Lahiru Thirimanne made his debut in ODI matches. He played his maiden match against India at Mirpur and scored 22 runs.

On this day in 2010, Sri Lankan pacer Chanaka Welagedara achieved his first five-wicket haul in ODI matches. He claimed five wickets against India at Mirpur.

On this day in 2016, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews passed 4000 runs in ODI matches. With that, Angelo Mathews became the 8th Sri Lankan to pass the 4000 milestone.

On this day in 2019, the Sri Lankan all-rounder scored his maiden hundred and scored his highest score in ODI matches. Thisara Perera scored 140 runs against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui while they were chasing a target of 319 runs. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka fell 21 runs short. While Thisara Perera scored his hundred, he passed 2000 runs and became the 19th Sri Lankan to reach 2000 ODI runs.
