Historical win for Bangladesh over Sri Lanka

Bangladesh registered a three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 38th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bowl first.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka bowled out 279 runs in 49.3 overs. After the dismissal of Kusal Perera in the very first over, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka made a 61-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 41 runs each. Sadeera and Charith Asalanka made a 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Charith Asalanka was the star with the bat and scored 108 runs. Dhananjaya de Silva contributed with 34 runs, while Maheesh Theekshana scored 22 runs. For Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib claimed three wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target successfully and scored 282 runs for a loss of 7 wickets in 41.1 overs. Bangladesh were off to a sheaky start with two wickets for 41 runs. After that, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan made a match-winning 169-run partnership for the third wicket. Shakib Al Hasan scored 82 runs, while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 90 runs. Mahmudullah contributed 22 runs. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka claimed three wickets.
