February 05: Muralitharan break the Wasim Akram’s record

On this day in 2009, Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan became the highest wicket-taker in ODI matches. During the fourth one-day international of the series between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo, Muttiah Muralitharan took the wicket of Gautam Gambhir as his 503rd wicket and passed Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram’s record of highest wicket-taker in ODI matches. Muralitharan achieved that milestone in his 328th one-day international match.

On this day in 2014, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara scored his highest score in Test matches. Sangakkara scored 319 runs in the first inning of Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh at Chattogram. It helped Sri Lanka make 587 runs in the first inning. Kumar Sangakkara’s brilliant knock of 319 runs was recorded as the 3rd highest individual score for Sri Lanka in Test matches.
