Chandimal and Mathews Nearing an exclusive milestone
Sri Lanka will play crucial two-test matches against New Zealand. If Sri Lanka wins both matches, they have a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship final 2023. On the other hand, the two most experienced Sri Lankan batsmen, Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal, face their individual millstones.
Sri Lanka’s former captain Dinesh Chandimal needs only 64 more runs to complete 5000 runs in Test matches. If he manages to cross the milestone in the upcoming tour of New Zealand, he will become the 11th Sri Lankan batsman to achieve the 5000 Test run mark in the history of Sri Lankan Test cricket. Dinesh Chandimal has played 70 Test matches and scored 4936 runs with 13 hundreds.
Also, Sri Lanka’s most experienced batsman, Angelo Mathews, is 47 runs behind to complete 7,000 runs in Test matches. So far, only two batsmen have crossed 7,000 Test runs for Sri Lanka. They are Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. If he manages to score 47 more runs in the upcoming New Zealand Test series, Angelo Mathews has the opportunity to become the third batsman to pass 7,000 Test runs for Sri Lanka. Angelo Mathews has played 100 Test matches and scored 6953 runs. In Test matches, he is Sri Lanka’s fourth-highest run scorer. He is 20 runs short of Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya, who is currently in 3rd place with 6973 runs.
