Chamari Athapaththu achieved yet another milestone

Sri Lanka women registered a 9-wicket win over New Zealand women in the rain-effected first ODI of the series on Tuesday at Galle. It’s recorded as Sri Lanka’s first-ever win against New Zealand in any format, and Sri Lankan players achieved their personal goals as well.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu was the star with the bat and scored an unbeaten 108 runs in 83 balls with 10 fours and 5 sixes. It was her 7th ODI hundred, and she became the 7th woman cricketer to score the most hundred in a career. Chamari Athapaththu became the first Sri Lankan batter to reach the 3000-run milestone when she scored 49 runs.

Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne made a 159-run partnership for the first wicket. It’s rated as the highest first-wicket partnership for Sri Lanka. Also, it was the 4th highest 1st wicket partnership against New Zealand women. 17-year-old Sri Lanka Women’s Under-19 team captain Vishmi Gunarathne scored his maiden half century and became the youngest Sri Lankan to score half century in Women’s ODI
