Bangladesh Collapse Hands Sri Lanka Easy Win
Sri Lanka showcased their dominance with a convincing 6-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the 5th match of the Asia Cup 2025 on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka opted to bowl first, and his decision paid off immediately. Bangladesh were rattled by early strikes, slipping to 53/5 under immense pressure from the Lankan bowlers.
A spirited partnership between Shamim Hossain (42)* and Jaker Ali (41)* rescued Bangladesh from further collapse. Their unbeaten 86-run stand for the sixth wicket gave Bangladesh some respectability, taking the total to 139/5 in 20 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga led the attack with 2 wickets, while Chameera and Thushara picked up one each.
In reply, Sri Lanka’s chase was smooth and commanding. Despite losing Kusal Mendis (3) early, the second-wicket stand between Pathum Nissanka (50) and Kamil Mishara (46)* took the game away from Bangladesh. Their 95-run partnership set the tone for a comfortable chase. Although Sri Lanka lost Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka cheaply, skipper Charith Asalanka (10)* stayed unbeaten alongside Mishara to complete the job in just 14.4 overs. For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasan was the standout bowler with 2 wickets, but the target proved far too small.
Sri Lanka’s emphatic win gives them a strong boost in their Asia Cup campaign.
